The Romance of the Amoeba and the Stone
A metaphor by Art III

Yes, the Amoeba loves the Stone, and can conform and stretch to all kinds of shapes to accommodate the Stone. Since the Stone can get it's needs met by just being a Stone, the Stone may entertain fantasies about how much better it is to be inflexible, but this is an illusion.

The Amoeba, oft tired of the wishy-washy flexibility of other amoebas, may feel secure that the Stone can always be trusted to be a Stone.

But one day the Amoeba is likely to meet Gumby, and realize that somewhere between being an Amoeba and a Stone is creature that can do a good stone impression when needed but still relate to shape shifting.

If the Stone doesn't learn to bend a little, Gumby's gonna ride that Amoeba like Pokey.
