Cheap LOW FAT alternative to regular chocolate chip cookies

CHOCOLATE CHIP MERINGUE COOKIES

2 egg whites
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp cream of tartar
2/3 cup sugar*
2/3 cup miniature semisweet chocolate pieces*

Lightly grease a cookie sheet and set aside

In a bowl beat egg whites, vanilla and cream of tartar with electric mixer until soft peaks form

Add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating with mixer until stiff peaks form

Fold in chocolate chips

Drop mixture by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart on cookie sheet

Bake at 300-F about 20 minutes or till firm and bottoms are lightly browned

* I found that the recipe, as given, makes a VERY sweet, rich cookie. Next time I make these, I'm going to use about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, and a little less sugar. If you don't have chocolate chips, I bet these cookies would still taste pretty good without them, using the full amount of sugar.
